The Awaited Moment

The phone rings.
"He's gone", the broken voice says.
A clank sounds as the phone is dropped by the caller.
Sobs ring in my ear.
Sinking to the floor, my arms ache to hold her.
My heart breaks from her screams.
Waiting.....
"Daddy's gone.", he passed just a little while ago.
What could I say except I am so sorry.

This poem comes from a phone call I received concerning the death of my brother-n-law. He passed away on December 3, 2012. I could not put into words what I felt as I heard my sister's words and her sobs when she called. Not being able to be there with her and put my arms around her was so very painful for me.
I don't know which hurts worse, losing some one or losing someone and not being able to be with the ones you love to comfort them. It would hurt just as much if I were there, but not being there makes it even more hurtful.
